Egyptian Statues – a popular item of interior decorating

World Heritage Shops

A statue is a type of sculpture representing a specific god, person, or animal. The main purpose of statues is to beautify a space and produce a decoration value.

Among all the décor items available, Egyptian statues hold high level of popularity for many years on. It is mainly because Egyptian statues traditionally come in bright colours and fine finishing resembling bronze or even gold. It is however necessary to mention that all the mainstream Egyptian statues are replicas of original artefacts found in the Valley of Kings and other exciting places. The main distinction lies within the quality. The range of statues and figurines we sell has emerged during many years of scrupulous exploration of the vast market of Egyptian novelty. We guarantee you will be satisfied with the quality of our products.

Statues or Figurines

The terms statue and figurine are usually confused. When it comes to home décor and interior design, there would be almost no difference between figurines and statues. But if we want to be specific, it is useful to know that figurine is a diminutive form of the word figure. Therefore decors of smaller size would usually be called figurines while sculptures of a middle or large size – statues.

Animal Figurines and Statues of Egyptian Gods

The vast majority of Egyptian statues represent a religious or mythological meaning. The borders between spiritual and secular art of Ancient Egypt are very blurry. Even a simple cat figurine is a spiritual symbol representing Bast (also known as Bastet). Bast is the solar godess and protector of cats. That is why cats in Ancient Egypt were worshipped and regarded as sacred animals. Cat figurines were very popular among Egyptians serving as totems to honour Bast the cat goddess. Cats in Ancient Egypt were often given a better life than humans. They wore golden jewellery and were usually allowed to have meals at the same table as their owners. Cat figurines were featured in many temples across Ancient Egypt. The most popular temple associated with Bast was Per-Bast where mummified cats were buried. More than 300,000 cat mummies were found in Bast’s temple. Other deities often featured in animal figurines are Anubis - jackal-headed god of the dead and Horus – the sun god, depicted as a falcon.

In our shop there are many Egyptian statues to choose from. Along cat figurines – the all time favourites – there are also a collection of Tutankhamun treasures and a bust of Nefertiti plus many others.
