Dinosaur Toys Part of the Pop CulturePeople have had a desire to touch the magic world of dinosaurs ever since the first fossils had been found by our ancestors. However it took a while for dinosaur toys to battle their way to the peak of popularity. Although the studies of dinosaurs began only in the mid 19th century, dinosaurs established themselves as icons of pop culture only some hundred years later helped by two cult movies. The Beast From 20000 Fathoms was filmed in 1953 and Godzilla followed a year later. It is necessary to mention that first dinosaur movies were made as early as 1912, but only with the advance of cinema dinosaurs became so popular that many people started to make replicas and scale models. The most popular dinosaur toy during the 50s and 60s was of course Godzilla. Now this prehistoric beast is almost forgotten and other dinosaur toys have taken its place. With the help of the milestone movie The Jurassic Park, 1993 and later with the enormous success of BBCs science series Walking With Dinosaurs in 1999, the real dinosaur craze took place. Technology was then advanced enough to produce fine and colourful dinosaur toys. |
